Calfskin Attache Case - Natural

$2,400.00

This simple case was made by Bernd Kreis in Obertshausen outside of Frankfurt, Germany. Mr. Kreis' family has been making small leather goods since 1963. His attention to detail and fine work are unparalleled, and each piece is hand finished.

The leather used in this case is a 100% vegetable tanned American calfskin, tanned at Horween Leather Company in 1949 - the original production ticket and promotional material can be seen in the images on this page. There are a very limited number of these hides that have remained in stock for nearly 70 years, from a time when the Union Stock Yards still operated in Chicago proper. An entire hide was used in the construction of this article.

The case is lined with hand-rubbed, true English bridle leather that has been skived to an appropriate thickness. Every edge on this case has been hand waxed, beveled and burnished, and stress points have been reinforced by hand sewing. The hardware on the front of the case opens smoothly, and closes securely. Included with the case are two small keys to lock the clasp, and a custom grey wool case for storage. The appearance of this case will improve with age and use, and is suitable for carrying everyday.
